Japan Staff Band – Turn up and pay £10.00

As part of ISB120, the 120th anniversary celebrations of The Salvation Army’s International Staff Band, Cradley Heath Band is hosting a visit of The Salvation Army’s Japan Staff Band, prior to them taking part in a concert featuring all eight staff bands at the Royal Albert Hall, London.

It looks as though there will be some tickets available on the door for anyone who makes a last minute decision to attend. And if you do, we have some good news. Owing to the information which has been circulating in the local press over the past week or so, we are offering these tickets at the same price as those bought in advance – £10.00 each – rather than the usual £12.50.

The Japan Staff Band will be giving a concert of varied music on Spring Bank Holiday Monday, 30 May 2011 at 7:00pm at Cradley Heath Salvation Army, Meredith Street, Cradley Heath, West Midlands B64 5EP. Tickets are priced at £10.00 in advance (£12.50 on the door if available) and are available now online using the form below and from Cradley Heath Salvation Army.

The Japan Staff Band is attached to The Salvation Army’s Territorial Headquarters in Tokyo, taking part in special meetings to convey the love of God and bring people to Christ, along with other events in local communities – concerts, performances at welfare institutes or hospitals, participation in community events, etc.

All the members of the Japan Staff Band are members of Salvation Army churches in Tokyo and its suburban areas. Some of them work for the Headquarters or social institutes or hospitals of The Salvation Army, while others have general occupations in common business world.

We are delighted they will be with us as part of their UK tour prior to the ISB120 event.

Japan is of course, very much in the news at the moment. We are praying and thinking of the people of Japan and hoping some sense of normality might return to their lives before too long.

We read daily in our newspapers and watch on our televisions at the scale of devastation and concern. We can only imagine what life is like. Bandmaster Hajime Suzuki has spoken about the effect on him and his Salvationist colleagues. Even though he is a long way (around 230kms) from the affected areas, the effect on Tokyo has been enormous. Even now, there is uncertainty about Salvationists who lived in the area hit by the tsunami and earthquake. We all pray for Hajime and his colleagues, those who are still unaccounted for, their families and other people of Japan.

Of course, the Japan Staff Band’s plans for their UK tour have, quite properly, taken second place in recent days but it is very apparent that we look forward to the band being with us in just a couple of months. They have, in the past week, recorded their tour CD. God bless them as they finalise their tour plans for we look forward to them being with us and I know that they will receive an enormous welcome from the people of Cradley Heath.

Amazing Love!

Easter is a special time of year for Christians. We remember the sacrifice Jesus Christ made in dying for our sins and making us new creations through his resurrection.

The week before Easter is known as Holy Week, and allows an opportunity to reflect quietly on the events which led to Jesus’ Crucifixion on Good Friday.

Cradley Heath Songsters of The Salvation Army will be providing a musical meditation on Maundy Thursday, 21 April 2011 at 7:30pm to allow you to do just that. We have a wealth of Easter songs with beautiful words to help you focus on the Easter message. The songs will include first performances of Wondrous Cross (Philip Wilby) and All in the April evening.

Caring for Others at Christmas

Cradley Heath Songsters of The Salvation Army will be bringing the Christmas spirit to residents of a local care home this week.

On Tuesday 21 December 2010, the Songsters will be leading the residents of Ashgrove Care Home in Dudley Wood in some well-known carols as well singing some of their Christmas songs

These events are always very special to the Songsters, giving them a chance to show the residents and their carers that the wider community still remember them at this time of year.

Celebrating Heaven’s Gift this Christmas – UPDATED: CANCELLED

PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO THE ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS, THIS CAROL SERVICE HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

Jesus – Heaven’s gift to us at Christmas. Cradley Heath Songsters and Cradley Heath Band will join together on Sunday 19 December 2010 to celebrate as part of our church’s annual carol service.

The carol service takes place at 6:00pm and will feature music from the Band and Songsters as well as the opportunity to sing carols together.

A collection will be taken during the carol concert in aid of our chosen charities this year – Mary Stevens Hospice and Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham Charity for cancer research.

The Moment the World was Changed Forever!

Cradley Heath Salvation Army Songsters will present their annual carol concert this Sunday, focusing on the moment the world was changed forever.

The concert takes place on Sunday 12 December 2010 at 6:00pm at The Salvation Army, Meredith Street, Cradley Heath, B64 5EP. Admission is free and seasonal refreshments will be served during the interval.

In the first half, the Songsters will feature songs such as Joyful and triumphant, Glory to God in the highest, Reflections and Hallelujah Christmas (featuring soloist, Shirley Quarry), as well as leading the audience in traditional Christmas carols.

In the second half the Songsters will draw the audience to the nativity scene in songs such as Little town, Once upon a holy night (featuring soloist, Hilary Crowhurst) and Not only for Christmas.

Our Favourite Carol Service of the Year!

Cradley Heath Salvation Army Band & Songsters will be taking part in their favourite carol service of the year this Tuesday.

On Tuesday 7 December 2010, the Band and Songsters will be presenting a carol service to the residents and friends of Halas Home in Wassell Grove, Halesowen.

Halas Homes provides residential care and supported living for adults with learning disabilities in the Halesowen area.

The Band and Songsters present carol arrangements and songs and we accompany the residents and friends as they sing some of the traditional carols. A particular highlight is the residents as they perform Jingle Bells on our timbrels (tambourines). There is usually a queue and it often takes three or four sessions before all the volunteers have had a go!

Members of the Band and Songsters always feel the warmth of the enjoyment and excitement the residents have as we worship together. That’s why it’s our favourite carol service of the year!
